G20 (2025)
Episode 4 is where the mystery finally turns into open confrontation. The group stops guessing and starts testing, and the truth about Billy becomes terrifyingly clear.
After Eleven’s vision at the steel mill, the kids are convinced something is very wrong with Billy. Eleven explains what she saw: dozens of people standing silently, controlled by the same dark force. Mike immediately connects this to the Mind Flayer.
But suspicion isn’t enough. They need proof.
The group comes up with a dangerous idea. If the Mind Flayer is controlling Billy, then heat should weaken it. Fire and heat have always hurt creatures from the Upside Down. The question is whether it works on a possessed human.
Billy is lured into the Hawkins community pool under a false pretense. Once inside, the kids trap him in the sauna room and slowly turn up the heat.
At first, Billy seems confused and angry. Then the change begins.
As the temperature rises, Billy becomes violent, smashing against the glass and screaming in pain. His strength increases unnaturally, and his voice shifts between fear and rage. For brief moments, the real Billy breaks through, begging for help.
Then the Mind Flayer takes over completely.
Billy’s eyes go dark, and he speaks with cold confidence, mocking Eleven directly. It confirms their worst fear.
Billy is possessed.
Through Billy, the Mind Flayer delivers a chilling message. It knows who Eleven is. It remembers her from before. It blames her for closing the gate and cutting it off from its power.
This reveals an important truth: the Mind Flayer has not forgotten Hawkins.
It’s here for revenge.
Billy manages to escape the sauna after causing chaos in the building. He attacks the kids, nearly killing them, but Eleven pushes herself to the limit to stop him. Using her powers, she throws Billy through a brick wall.
He escapes into the night.
After the fight, Eleven collapses. The effort costs her more than expected. Later, she discovers something alarming: a piece of the Mind Flayer has entered her leg during the struggle.
This moment is easy to miss but extremely important. The Mind Flayer didn’t just attack.
It infected her.
Meanwhile, Hopper and Joyce continue investigating the Russian operation. They discover that the malfunctioning machines and strange energy readings aren’t accidents. Someone is actively trying to reopen the gate.
Their investigation leads them closer to Starcourt Mall, confirming that the threat is hiding in plain sight.
Episode 4 confirms the core danger of Season 3.
This episode marks a major shift. The group now understands the rules of the threat, but the cost of learning them is high.
By the end of “The Sauna Test,” there is no doubt left.
The Mind Flayer isn’t trying to hide.
It’s preparing to fight back.
