Stranger Things – Season 1, Episode 4
Channing Tatum transforms into the infamous Roofman in this gripping, funny, and emotional 2025 crime drama. Based on a bizarre true story.
Directed by Derek Cianfrance | Release Date: October 10, 2025 | Distributed by Paramount Pictures & Miramax
Imagine breaking into fast food joints... through the roof. That’s not a joke — it’s the real-life tale of Jeffrey Manchester, also known as "Roofman", a charming criminal with an extraordinary (and bizarrely comedic) method of robbery. And in Roofman (2025), director Derek Cianfrance brings this wild true story to life with an all-star cast led by Channing Tatum.
Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2025 and officially releasing in theaters on October 10, 2025, Roofman promises to be one of the most unexpected cinematic highlights of the year.
Roofman follows the life of Jeffrey Manchester, a former Army Reserve officer who gained notoriety for his strange but effective method of robbery — entering McDonald's restaurants through the roof. But it wasn’t just fast food joints; Manchester later evaded capture for months by living inside the walls of a Toys "R" Us.
This film blends crime, drama, and comedy in a way that’s gripping, emotional, and even hilarious. Expect a tone that swings between suspenseful heists and deeply human moments of reflection.
This incredible cast brings energy, depth, and humor to a story that’s as bizarre as it is heartfelt.
Directed by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines), the film is co-written by Cianfrance and Kirt Gunn. The screenplay is based on an earlier draft by David Stephens and Peter Petrucci. The cinematography, shot on 35mm film by Andrij Parekh, adds an authentic, gritty aesthetic that mirrors the film’s quirky tone.
Filming took place in Gastonia, North Carolina, with real-life locations including Freedom Park, the Mecklenburg County Jail, and the Gaston County Courthouse. The production wrapped in December 2024 and was edited by Jim Helton.
Roofman doesn’t just tell a story — it raises questions about identity, redemption, and what drives a man to hide inside a toy store. It's funny, it's weird, and it's emotionally resonant.
After its limited theatrical release, it’s expected that Roofman will head to digital and streaming platforms, although no official streaming date has been announced yet.
If you think you’ve seen it all when it comes to crime films, Roofman might just surprise you. With a captivating true story, a powerful cast, and a director known for deep emotional storytelling, this film will likely dominate discussions come awards season — and possibly steal your heart just like Roofman slipped through the roofs.
Don’t miss it in theaters this October!
