G20 (2025)
Ne Zha 2, directed by Yang Yu (also known as Jiaozi), is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 animated hit. Released in China on January 29, 2025 (Chinese New Year) and in U.S. theaters on February 14, it continues the mythic journey of Ne Zha and his companion Ao Bing as they seek to restore their mortal forms and face rising threats.
Following their survival as spirits after the first film, Master Taiyi Zhenren uses the Seven‑Colored Precious Lotus to rebuild Ne Zha’s and Ao Bing’s bodies. Their quest is complicated by Ao Bing’s father, the Dragon King, who seeks vengeance on Ne Zha’s village. The plot weaves epic trials, mythical realms, and fierce loyalty tests.
The narrative crescendos through a series of magical trials and betrayals, with spectacular battles, dramatic emotional stakes, and a showdown at the Jade Palace. The duo’s journey tests fate, friendship, and sacrifice.
The film became the highest-grossing animated film ever globally, earning over US $1.5 billion and breaking China’s box office records. In mainland China, it surpassed RMB 14.7 billion (~US $1.6 billion), claiming the title of the top single‑market film ever.
Built on breathtaking animation and rich cultural themes, Ne Zha 2 is both a visual marvel and an emotionally resonant mythology epic. While packed with humor (some of it potty‑style), it remains deeply moving and culturally significant.
