F9 (2021)
F9 (2021) takes the Fast & Furious saga to new heights as Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew face a threat from Dominic’s estranged brother, Jakob Toretto (John Cena). The movie begins with a flashback to Dominic and Jakob’s past, revealing the tragic circumstances surrounding their father’s death during a race and the rift that drove the brothers apart.
In the present day, Dominic has retired to a quiet life with Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) and his son, Brian. However, their peace is disrupted when Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Ludacris), and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) bring news of a dangerous mission. Mr. Nobody’s plane has crashed, and aboard it was a device called Ares, a weapon capable of controlling any computer system in the world.
Dominic reluctantly joins the team, discovering that Jakob is working with Otto (Thue Ersted Rasmussen), a wealthy European who plans to use Ares to achieve global dominance. As the team races to retrieve the two halves of Ares, they travel to various exotic locations, including Montequinto and Tokyo, engaging in high-octane chases and explosive confrontations.
Letty and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) reunite in Tokyo, where they discover Han (Sung Kang) is alive, having faked his death with the help of Mr. Nobody. Han is protecting Elle (Anna Sawai), a young woman who is the key to activating Ares. This revelation brings emotional weight and a renewed sense of family to the story.
Meanwhile, Jakob’s motivations are explored, showing his resentment toward Dominic for banishing him after their father’s death. The brothers’ conflict escalates, leading to a high-speed chase through Edinburgh, where Dominic captures Jakob. However, Otto rescues Jakob, and the mission intensifies.
The crew faces their biggest challenge yet when Otto and Jakob launch a satellite to activate Ares. Roman and Tej take their mission to the literal next level, going to space in a makeshift rocket car to destroy the satellite. This sequence combines humor and daring, pushing the franchise’s action boundaries.
On the ground, Dominic confronts Jakob in an epic battle, ultimately reconciling with his brother and persuading him to join their side. Jakob redeems himself by helping the crew stop Otto, who is killed in the chaos.
The film concludes with the team celebrating their victory back home. Dominic welcomes Jakob back into the family before he leaves to find his own path. The emotional ending includes a heartwarming nod to Brian O’Conner as his car arrives at the family gathering, keeping his presence alive in the franchise.
